These whimsical Valentine's Day blondies are a luscious way to say, 'I love you' We made our lovebirds with red, yellow and green fruit leather, but feel free to use any combination of colours you like.
This broth fondue makes for an easy entertaining evening. Guests first spear paper-thin slices of beef and a variety of vegetables and mushrooms and simmer them in broth, then, when everyone has almost reached the point of satisfaction, they can add noodles to the broth and enjoy a delicious soup. You can save some preparation time if your butcher or supermarket sells presliced beef especially for this kind of Asian fondue and stocks bottled ponzu sauce.
Sushi is one of the most wonderful appetizers because you can get your guests involved in assembling and rolling it, something I've never known anyone to refuse (any guest worth his or her salt, I mean!). This type of sushi is called futomaki, or thick sushi roll.
Menemen is a delicious scrambled egg and tomato dish served as part of a bountiful Turkish breakfast. This recipe makes a portable version of this dish by baking or frying it inside a soft dough, replicating the fresh, warm, fried and baked breads that are also served as part of this breakfast feast.
This recipe from Kristeen Deyell of Lindsay, Ont., is one of her casual entertaining favourites. The burgers are also delicious on their own. If you are short on time, use bakery hamburger buns instead.
We have recreational oceanfront property on the Sunshine Coast in BC and have a abundance of fresh seafood available twelve months of the year. One trip several years ago we had only caught two redrock crab off our float and ramp system and about two dozen or so large BC spotted prawns. We decided to put these two ingredients together to make a tasty dish to go along with our city dinner. We have no stores nearby so must make do and improvise.
Being blessed with living near the Pacific ocean, we have always been experimenting with different ways to serve salmon. We've tried pan frying, poaching, baking, etc. but always come back to the BBQ. With our BC weather, we have barbecued in the dead of winter, in the (mild) snowy season and throughout the year. After purchasing our newest & best barbecue (grill) ever 2 years ago, we feel we have perfected the ultimate salmon BBQ recipe. It's easy to prepare and the blend of herbs & spices lend a unique flavour "memory" of tangy & sweet without covering up the salmon's own natural goodness! We pretty much only eat our salmon this way now and especially incorporate it into any evening of happy entertaining, including New Years!
Picture this: a rich, brownie-like chocolate cake topped with chocolate mousse, whipped topping and garnished with even more chocolate. Sound divine? It is! Italian meringue gives the mousse a light, fluffy texture without the addition of gelatin. If you can include dairy in your dessert, substitute whipped cream for the nondairy whipped topping.
