Farfallini are tiny bow tie-shaped pasta; other small pastas, such as orzo (rice-shaped pasta), stellini (small star-shaped pasta) and ditalini (small tube-shaped pasta) are also suitable. Toasting some of the pasta boosts the flavour as well as the visual appeal.
This makes a great vegetarian main course salad or side dish served with grilled meat. Since pea shoots are not as tender as pea tendrils, they are cooked before eating.
There are many varieties of kimchi, the traditional Korean fermented pickled side dish. For these pancakes, you need kimchi made from napa cabbage; it's easy to find in Asian grocery stores or the refrigerated deli section of some supermarkets. Its spicy heat is subtle in these pancakes, so even people sensitive to chilies will enjoy its salty tang.
Top these warmly spiced, carbohydrate-rich waffles with sauteed apples or warmed honey or maple syrup.

Pan-frying tofu gives it a lovely crispy texture. Look for steamed chow mein noodles in the refrigerated cases, near the fresh pasta and wonton wrappers.
Pasta soaks up this tasty peanut sauce, so don't worry if it looks watery; it will thicken as it sits. If you're taking your salad to go, stir in a couple of teaspoons of hot water to thin out the sauce right before you dig in.
