Summer is undoubtedly the season for reading. Between long road trips and flights, lounging on the beach, and enjoying a sunny afternoon in a park, you're pretty much obligated to bring one of these must-reads along with you. From heart-swelling summer romances and curious murder-mysteries to dark comedies, there's something for every reader to devour.
1. One Golden Summer

It isn't a true Canadian summer without a new read from author Carley Fortune. One Golden Summer takes place in Barry's Bay, the small cottaging town in Ontario where Fortune's first book was set. When Alice, a photographer, and her grandmother, Nan, return to the idyllic Barry’s Bay lakeshore where they used to vacation, the last thing Alice expects to find is Charlie, the charming boy who stole her heart when she was 17. But as Nan says, good things happen at the lake.

This dark comedy is laugh-out-loud funny and a heart-warming look at friendship, marriage, and middle age.
3. Detective Aunty

Sometimes a classic whodunnit is exactly what you need to delve into poolside. Detective Aunty is the first book in a detective series featuring the charming and meddlesome widow Kausar Khan in amateur sleuth mode.
4. Julie Chan is Dead

Lovers of Yellowface will be entranced by Liann Zhang's debut novel. The story follows Julie Chan, who after discovering the dead body of her twin sister, decides to step into her glamorous influencer shoes.

9. Snap

10. Favourite Daughter

11. Black Cherokee

Set in 1990s South Carolina, this coming-of-age story follows a mixed-race Black girl fighting for recognition in a Cherokee community that refuses to accept her ancestry as legitimate. The story takes Ophelia Blue Rivers from a majority white high school to a Black evangelical church to Southern underground clubs, all while posing the question of what it means to belong.
12. Palm Meridian
