5 Food & Drink Trends To Watch For In 2024

2023 was filled with Aperol spritzes and butter boards—what will 2024 bring?

We love a food trend—it makes every meal and snack a little more fun. From magic shell overnight oats to peanut butter rice cakes to viral squash recipes, social media pushed playing with food as a way to express yourself, be creative, and make mealtime enjoyable.

It looks like you can expect the same in 2024, with a whole new slew of trends forecasted to take off. We read through Whole Foods' 2024 Market Forecast and Yelp's 2024 Food & Drink Trend Report to pull out what we think we'll be buzzing about next year.

5 Food & Drink Trends for 2024

1. Putting the "Plant" back in "Plant-Based"

We know fake meat options became a huge trend over the last few years, with brands like Beyond Meat, Gradein, and Yves really stepping up their game. But 2024 will look to focus on real plants vs. fake meat. Look for shrinking ingredient labels when it comes to your veggie burger and start reading up on non-animal sources of protein, like tempeh, Skyr yogurt and legumes.

2. Tinned fish & faux-fish

We've been patiently waiting for tinned fish to get the recognition it deserves—and we're not talking about your average tuna here (although, we love that too!). Looks for sustainable companies creating fancy fish products, like Scout, which offers seafood snacks made for on-the-go, and Wildfish Cannery. Then there's faux-fish, like trumpet mushrooms being used in place of scallops and carrots in place of lox. The possibilities are endless!

3. "Little Treat" Culture

We can all relate to this one: the sweet treat or purchase that satisfies all your cravings but doesn't break the bank. Whether it's the kombucha or the single-serve Mid-Day Squares bar you buy for the drive home from the grocery store or the two-ingredient fudge you keep in the freezer, this little treat is meant to give you a hit of happiness throughout your day and food brands are starting to get behind it. Look for more "little treats" to start popping up in stores in 2024.

4. Coffee Cocktails & Sleepy Girl Mocktails

It only makes sense that if coffee continues to trend, we find ways to give it a boost and also combat the side effects of caffeine, right? Enter the era of coffee cocktails and sleepy girl mocktails. But these aren't the cocktails you're used to having. We're talking about adding benefits to your morning brew: think adding a few drops of Rainbo's Lion's Mane Brain Power Mushroom Tincture for a mood, memory, and focus boost or Blume's Superfood Organic Salted Caramel Latte Blend for a little vitality and sustained energy.

Now, the sleepy girl mocktail is a TikTok trend we hope is here to stay. This DIY beverage is something you can make at home, every night before you go to bed. It's meant to help you fall and stay asleep. Try it out:

@gracie_norton the only time i struggle with sleep is right at the end of my luteal phase! This is working WONDERS!! 💛 (not something im planning on drinking every single night, just near the end of my luteal phase! #healthyhabits #mocktails #bettersleep #sleep ♬ The Lazy Song - 헐 잘생겼다 Ryujin

5. Noodles Galore

It's official: noodles are taking over! From pho to Pad Thai to ramen, everyone is looking for easy ways to make their favourite takeout dishes at home. Not only is it getting easier with flavour profiles of fermented foods becoming increasingly popular and making their way onto more grocery store shelves, but we're seeing at-home kits starting to pop up too. We love this trend for experimenting with new recipes and adding a more interactive eating experience, plus noodle dishes are totally customizable!

Try these for an easy at-home noodle night:
