Slow Cooker Minestrone Soup

Meaning “big soup” in Italian, minestrone is exactly that – a hearty dish that can easily be a starter or an entrée.

This savoury pancake makes a great starter for a small group or a hearty meal that serves one or two people. Look for okonomi sauce and bonito flakes at Asian supermarkets. If you can't find the more richly flavoured Japanese-style mayonnaise, substitute with regular mayo.

Shanghai Noodles

Available in 400 g packages, cooked thick yellow miki noodles are ready to use – and the perfect amount for two. If you can't find them, use Shanghai-style noodles instead (see Tip), but you'll only need half the package.
